Local Government is Key to Meeting UK Emissions Targets
Local authorities have a crucial role in contributing to emissions reductions and helping the UK meet its carbon budgets targets says a report by the Committee on Climate Change (CCC). In the report, commissioned by DECC, the CCC says local authorities have significant influence over key emitting sectors including residential and commercial buildings, surface transport and waste.
SSE plc Acquires Phoenix Natural Gas
Phoenix Energy Holdings, Northern Ireland's largest natural gas utility, has announced that it has reached an agreement to sell its gas supply businesses to SSE plc, formerly Scottish & Southern Electricity - subject to regulatory clearance.
DECC Reports Decrease In Fuel Poverty
The 2012 Annual Report on Fuel Poverty Statistics was published last week by the Department of Energy & Climate Change. The publication includes new data for England from 2010, together with estimated data for other UK regions. The report claims that the number of fuel poor households in England fell to 3.5m in 2010- a welcome decrease from 4.0m in 2009.
